Li received an MA/Ph.D. in Mythological Studies and Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute (2011/2014), an MA in Arts and Humanities Education from NYU (2000) and attended Spelman College as an undergrad. Sumpter’s dissertation, Apocalyptic Soul: Seeing Through Image in the Age of End Time, examines the impact of apocalyptic art and media on psyche and the material world. She has developed guest lectures and speaking tours around her dissertation research and various topics including afrofuturism, image and archetype, urban ecology and eco-activism, race and identity, cinema and psyche, the art of survival and emergency preparedness, and the Apocalypse Complex. Currently, Li is an adjunct professor teaching in Curatorial Studies at Moore College of Art and Design.
